TechnoScene has been founded in 1989 as a consultancy in the strategic domain spanned by the management of technology, innovation and knowledge. We lead our customers into developing sound knowledge, innovation, science and technology strategies for successful deployment of technologies to achieve their business objectives based on a thorough understanding of the knowledge required for these technologies and the customer's business environment. Dr Anthon Botha (Pr.Sci.Nat, Pr.Phys)

APBAnthon Botha holds a PhD in Physics and is Managing Director of TechnoScene (Pty) Ltd and Executive Director of InnovationLab (Pty) Ltd, a black economic empowered company. From 1992 to 1999 he acted as Managing Director of Decision Technologies (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of TechnoScene. TechnoScene operates in the knowledge industry to provide business consulting in the management and commercialisation of knowledge, technology and innovation and facilitates debates and events in the field of science and technology. Through its services, TechnoScene creates common visions around the knowledge base of enterprises and focus on the incorporation of knowledge and technology into strategy. TechnoScene further facilitates knowledge transfer through its TechnoConferences division. Anthon Botha often acts as facilitator in environments of interactive debate and long range planning.

Anthon studied at the University of Stellenbosch and did his post-graduate work at the Van de Graaff Group at the current iThemba LABS in the Western Cape. He worked for the CSIR in electronic materials research and development from 1982 to 1989. In 1989 he founded TechnoScene. His academic exposure includes being invited as part-time Extraordinary Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Pretoria in 1992. From 1994 to 2004 he has been a guest lecturer in Management of Technology and Innovation to post-graduate students in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Pretoria. He is currently a part-time senior lecturer and researcher at the Graduate School of Technology Management at the University of Pretoria and a guest lecturer in the Senior Management Programme of the Gordon Institute for Business of (GIBS) through Continuing Education at UP. He is a Professional Physicist registered at the South African Institute of Physics (SAIP) and a registered natural scientist at the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP).

His work is based on the Management of Technology, Innovation and Knowledge as disciplines, and incorporates future thinking, strategic research and business consulting on the impact of emerging, often digital, technologies on the way we live, work, play and transact; human behaviour; and macro-trends and events. The outcome of this work leads to sound technology, innovation and knowledge strategies for clients and to an understanding of the evolving business landscapes.

He has conducted numerous strategic planning projects and market and feasibility studies leading to strategies for research, innovation, restructuring, and repositioning in the fields of electronics, microelectronics, information and communication technologies, advanced materials, small business start-up support, higher education, business and financial services and high technology enterprises. He has been instrumental in developing research infrastructure strategies in South Africa and has been involved in several research infrastructure and knowledge infrastructure reviews and the South African Research Infrastructure Roadmap (SARIR). He has also been involved in a European Union programme for promoting partnerships in research infrastructure between Europe and Africa. He has further been an evaluator and advisor on research infrastructure for the Canadian Foundation for Innovation. Anthon has published numerous research papers, contract reports, white papers and opinions on new technology and future worlds of business and living and is the author of a book: “Knowledge – living and working with it” published by Juta.

Mrs Thereza Botha

TCB1Thereza Botha holds a Masters Degree in Linguistics from the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa which was awarded in 1982. She worked as a researcher and a lecturer in the Department of General Linguistics at the University of Stellenbosch. She was a member of the editorial team of the Stellenbosch Papers in Linguistics (SPIL) and SPIL Plus, two publications published by the Department of General Linguistics. From 1983 to 1984 she was appointed as lecturer in Linguistics at the University of Pretoria.

In 1989 she joined TechnoScene as Chief Financial Officer and was also put in charge of public relations. She is part of the senior planning team in TechnoScene. Under her leadership TechnoScene has organised several science, engineering and technology conferences, some of which were major international events and part of the international conference circuit.

She is skilled in database design and data management for large events, liaison with service providers and sponsors, has considerable experience in communication management, negotiation and subcontractor management. Her creative skills are applied to deliver memorable events and functions whether it is in the African bush or in a large city. Her communications skills with international visitors have made her a popular organiser and her ability to keep large delegate groups informed, assisted and happy is well known.

She specialises in consultancy and delivery of knowledge transfer events, promotional events, servicing local and international customers. The consultancy involves turn-key solutions around the events, including planning, advising on venues, handling of presenters and delegates, event programme and publications, event accommodation, transport and tours and visits and functions as well as event web sites. Each event, including sponsors, advertisers and exhibitors is managed separately financially.

hereza is skilled in documenting strategic discussions, following from workshops she organises or attends where TechnoScene provides the facilitator and has the ability to produce outcome documentation in real time.

She has organised more than 80 conferences and workshops, of which the majority was of an international nature.

She is also an experienced researcher, finding and selecting background information to TechnoScene studies and consulting projects. She acts as a data analyst in surveys conducted by TechnoScene and is an expert in spreadsheet analysis.

She is also involved in an entrepreneurial firm, Red Dapple Designs, that designs and manufactures products for the horse riding industry. Her specialisation is in digital branding design and she runs a small embroidery factory to brand the products that are sold all over South Africa, with some exports.
